About Allan Spear Construction

Allan Spear Construction employs 140 to 150 with numbers ranging to 250 during peak construction periods. "We've striven in the past 10 years to develop a core of competent foreman that we are real proud of," says Spear. "They've given us the ability to grow in size and the complexity of jobs we can undertake." Projected sales for 2007 will be in the range of 20 million dollars.

One of the company's most important initiatives is in the area of safety. A full-time safety director handles all safety issues, including compliance with federal, state, and local safety ordinances and supervision of all employee training. "Safety is our number one priority," says Spear. "We want all of our foreman, forklift operators, and scaffold workers to be well trained on the latest industrial equipment, so they will know how to operate safely at all times," he says.

With headquarters located in Gainesville, the firm maintains construction offices on the site of projects across the state of Florida that last a year or more.

Allan Spear Construction, LLC is a distributor for Increte Systems, a stamped concrete product used in walkways, patios, driveways, and entrance areas.

Thomas Moss, Chief Estimator, is president of the local masonry association, and the firm is a member of the Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce, Tilt-up Association, the Safety Council, and the Gainesville Builders Association.

"We've been here a long time, and we stand behind our work"

Allan Spear Construction began in 1955 as Doug Bishop Masonry. When Bishop decided to get out of the business, "my grandfather bought him out," says Spear. Since that time, Spear has expanded the business ten-fold. To maintain growth the company looks nationwide to bid selected projects, and to date has landed jobs from Vero Beach to Georgia, while still maintaining steady growth within a two-hour radius of Gainesville.
